“Shirts” we wear regularly every day in Japanese we called “Wai shirts” but anyone know why we call it like that? Historically, it came from the word “White Shirt” In English. American people pronounced it “White Shirt” but Japanese people cannot hear the letter “H” so they have been calling it “Wai Shirt” until today

“Wai Shirt” is only founded in Japanese, and due to the fact that its root came from the word “White Shirt”, foreigners might be confused because Japanese used this word in describing colored shirts such as blue or pink shirts, and foreigners might say “hey! this is not white shirts but colored shirts!”

Shirts have a very long history, in the past it has been used as inner wear and become widely recognized as casual shirts to wear at home. Then it has been evolving to go with the Jackets in different occasions like in nowadays (Historically, we will understand why we need to wear jacket on shirts in formal events.

Nowaday, a shirt is an important item to create identity and personality of a wearer due to variations of colors and patterns and it is not only available in white color.

Apart from colors like white which represents cleanness and sincere, while blue represents freshness, and pink represents lively and gentle, there are wide ranges of patterns, for example, stripes which represents sharpness and stylishness or checkered patterns which also represents gentleness. By applying and mixing colors and patterns, shirts can bring different image to wearers.

In tropical country like Thailand, wearing only shirts and pants are mandatory for workwear and business attire so shirts are necessary.
